Identification of intracellular gold nanoparticles using surface-enhanced Raman scattering.

The identification of intracellular distributions of noble metal nanoparticles is of great utility for many biomedical applications. We present an effective method to distinguish intracellular from extracellular nanoparticles by selectively quenching the SERS signals from dye molecules adsorbed onto star-shaped gold nanoparticles that have not been internalized by cells.

Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering of Crystal Violet with Low Concentrations Using Self-Assembled Silver and Gold-Silver Core-Shell Nanoparticles

The active substrates in surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy were prepared through self-assembly of nanoparticles on functionalized glasses. Colloidal silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) were prepared chemically in two different sizes by reduction of AgNO3 using trisodium citrate and sodium borohydride. Gold–silver core–shell nanoparticles were also prepared to compare between the o...

Nanostructured substrate with nanoparticles fabricated by femtosecond laser for surface-enhanced Raman scattering

A simple and fast method to fabricate nanostructured substrates with silver nanoparticles over a large area for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is reported. The method involves two steps: 1) dip the substrate into a silver nitrate solution for a few minutes, remove the substrate from the solution, and then air dry and 2) process the silver nitrate coated substrate by femtosecond (fs) l...

Intracellularly grown gold nanoparticles as potential surface-enhanced Raman scattering probes.

Gold nanoparticles grown within the intracellular confines of living cells are introduced as potential surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrates for confocal Raman spectrometry. Electron microscopy and a silver-enhanced reflectance laser scanning confocal microscopic approach were used to visualize the size, shape, and distribution of intracellularly grown gold nanoparticles (IGAuN) a...

Laser-treated substrate with nanoparticles for surface-enhanced Raman scattering.

A rapid and simple approach to fabricate a large area of nanostructured substrate for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is reported. Gold nanoparticles ranging from 10 to 40 nm in diameter uniformly distributed on a silicon substrate were obtained by annealing the gold film precoated on the silicon substrate with UV nanosecond (ns) laser pulses. The gold nanoparticles were formed by surf...
